Dr. Fernando Guarín has more than 42 years of experience in the semiconductor industry and microelectronic reliability. He retired as a Distinguished Technical Staff Member at GlobalFoundries (leading the qualification team for 5G technologies) and after 27 years as a Senior Member of Technical Staff at IBM SRDC. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University. He is an IEEE Life Fellow and Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Electron Device Society (EDS), an entity in which he served as President during the period 2018-2019, in addition to having been Secretary and Chair of its Education Committee. He is the IEEE Division I Director 2026-2027.
